There are different forms of “standing”

There are many forms of standing posture, such as standing with legs closed, standing with legs open naturally, or standing with both legs naturally parallel (This “Natural Stance”).

Each different standing pose has different meanings and uses, but also has a lot in common, depending on the specific purpose of use and training. There are poses with a lot of ritual meaning. There are also poses with a lot of physical meaning – ending or starting an exercise or a session.

Fortunately, there is a pose not only has the same meanings as above, but is also used in many other situations, such as maintaining good concentration, seriousness and respect. In addition, it obviously promotes good observations and good understandings. At the same time, also in many situations, it is possible to always be on the defensive and ready to launch attacks. It is this “Natural Stance”.

The meaning of the natural stance

Proactivity

When in a natural standing position, the practitioner himself will initially find it very comfortable that the center of gravity is evenly distributed over two naturally parallel vertical legs, with the feet open to the sides at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

The whole of the body is held upright in an axis perpendicular to the ground. Feel the grip on the floor of the soles of the feet as if there is an invisible but firm grip, although according to natural physiology the body rocks somewhat, it cannot be completely still.

In this position, the practitioner is in a relatively comfortable physical condition, without constraint or stiffness in any position of the body. Therefore, the ego, the activity of “self” will always be put in a permanent state.

Learning attitude

On the contrary, in the natural standing posture (natural position), the practitioner always shows a learning attitude (respectful and receptive attitude). Practitioner can remain in this posture for a relatively long period of time to observe, study and absorb the instructions of the master or instructor or other students – Concentration, seriousness and learning – While keeping ego, independence self-active.

Discreet defense

On the other hand, the natural stance can also be used in many cases of discreet self-defense. The defense in this stane will not be revealing and exhausting, when the danger of being attacked is not obviously and in certain appropriate situations.

Besides the posture of the legs, the shapes of the fists and the positions of the hands are also a language, helping to clarify the mind that the posture “Natural stance” wants to express in each specific situation – as meditate calmly alone, stand and listen to the master or the interpreter, sometimes discreetly defending himself against a possible attack by the adversary, etc.
