MOM’S MILK
If possible, breastfeed from the first hour of birth and wean only after 24 months
Breast milk is the best food needed for babies from birth. Breastfeeding is a natural, economical and effective way to protect the health of mother and baby.
In the first 6 months after birth, a mother should exclusively breastfeed her baby without feeding or drinking any other food or drink, including water, except in special cases if she needs to take vitamin, mineral or medicines prescribed by your doctor.
Mothers should breastfeed directly as soon as possible after birth, from the first hour to stimulate breast milk production as soon as possible. Breastfeed as your baby needs, day and night. The average feeding time for a baby is about 15-20 minutes.
And, as mentioned above, breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months without the need to add anything else, including drinking water. If possible, wean children only after 24 months.
Breastfeeding directly improves milk secretion
Breastfeeding directly stimulates the mother’s prolactin secretion and therefore the more prolactin secreted, the more milk production is increased.
In addition, the direct suckling of the baby will stimulate the secretion of oxytocin, which increases the contraction reflex of the milk follicles to expel the milk. This oxytocin secretion reflex is also reinforced if the mother is cheerful and positive, loves her baby and puts her affection into his direct breastfeeding.
Ensuring maternal nutrition and health
To ensure that the mother’s milk supply always meets the baby’s nutritional needs, the mother must have an appropriate rest and work regimen.
Nutrient-dense foods should be eaten, such as protein-rich, vitamin-rich, etc. such as eggs, milk, meat, seafood, legumes, beans, peanuts, sesame, green vegetables, ripe fruits, etc. at the same time, you should eat a lot, but a lot of smaller meals than usual.
Must drink plenty of water (not less than 2 L per day under normal conditions), do not eat strong spices such as chilli, pepper etc., do not drink alcohol, beer, coffee, do not smoke etc.
And if you are sick, it is necessary to consult a doctor and use medicine according to the doctor’s instructions.
Notes on birth control pills
It is also important to note that after 6 months of natural contraception, the mother can use an appropriate method of contraception but must not use contraceptive products containing estrogen so as not to interfere with lactation.
2 types de problèmes courants
Here I would like to mention 2 possible cases for a breastfeeding woman related to breastfeeding, which should be resolved as soon as possible:
- In the first case, the mother does not produce enough milk to breastfeed, leading to frequent milk shortages.
- In the second case, although the mother is producing enough milk, even with excess breast milk, her milk ducts are blocked, resulting in prolonged inflammation and blockage.
Principle: Prioritize the use of non-drug methods!
If you have any of these conditions, there are many ways to try to resolve the problem, but non-drug methods should be used first to ensure that the health of mother and baby is always optimal.
MASSAGE, ACUPRESSURE TO “CALL” THE MILK
Here I would like to introduce a classical massage and acupressure applied to pregnant women and mothers to improve lactation to meet the baby’s sucking needs (i.e. the first case, the mother does not produce enough of milk as mentioned above). If you are pregnant, you can apply this exercise from about 1 month before the expected date to be effective.
Specifically, there are 3 important acupuncture points that are applied and practiced here: Shaoze acupoint, Shanzhong acupoint and Rugen acupoint.
You can practice this exercise in many positions such as standing, sitting or lying down. When practicing massage and reflexology, you should always breathe slowly and deeply with your lower abdomen. The mind is always peaceful and positive.
Shaoze acupoint _ SI1

Acupressure to help lactation and breastfeeding
You can consult detailed information about the Shaoze acupoint in the SI1 video as well as on the website vikudo.com
Determine the location of the Shaoze acupoint
(Please review the SI1 video)
The Shaoze acupoint is located on the outer edge of the little finger, next to the base of the nail.
Effect of the Shaoze acupoint
The Shaoze acupoint is the acupuncture point located in the first position of the small intestine meridian. Besides the therapeutic effects of diseases related to the head and eyes, the Shaoze acupoint is known for its specific effects in the treatment of conditions related to the mammary glands such as lack of milk and even clogged milk, inflammation mammary glands etc.
Stimulate the Shaoze acupoint
Shaoze acupoint stimulator
There are many ways to activate the Shaoze acupoint to stimulate breast milk production, but some of the easiest and most effective ways you can apply here are deep pressure, press-release, and press circle.
You can use your fingertips to act on the acupuncture point. However, in my opinion, you need to use the tip of your thumb to press the acupuncture point to be more effective.
You can use deep pressure, that is, you press the tip of your thumb on the acupuncture point, continuously press deeply for about 10-15 seconds, then immediately switch to gently press the acupuncture point for more than ten seconds.
Then you should move on to the practice of pressing the acupoint for the other hand, including deep pressing and pressing in a circle on the acupoint, similar to the previous method.
If you use the press-release method, that is, you press the tip and then release the hand, do it slowly, then you can do it continuously for a few tens of seconds to 1 minute and then change hand after pressing gently for the acupuncture point for more than ten seconds.
The total time you operate on each side should not exceed 5 minutes to avoid causing damage to the pressed area.
Shanzhong acupoint_ CV17

Acupressure to help lactation and breastfeeding
Once you have finished stimulating the Shaoze acupoint with both hands, you can take action on the Shanzhong acupoint.
You can consult detailed information about the Shanzhong acupoint in the CV17 video as well as on the website vikudo.com
Determine the location of the Shanzhong acupoint
(Please review the CV17 video)
The Shanzhong acupoint is located on the conception vessel, which is the anterior midline of the human body, and is at the level of the 4th intercostal space.
Effect of the Shanzhong acupoint
Since ancient times, the Shanzhong acupoint has been applied very effectively in massage and acupressure therapies to treat respiratory, cardiovascular, intercostal nerve diseases and especially to effectively treat in the pain and swelling of the udder, the nipple congestion and blocked mammary glands, etc.
Combined with the Shaoze and Rugen acupoints, the Shanzhong acupoint will actively contribute to the circulation of the mammary glands, and thus positively promote the mother’s milk production.
Stimulate the Shanzhong acupoint
In order to properly affect the Shanzhong acupoint, although you can use a support device, there is one way I suggest here is to use the tip of your thumb as with the Shaoze acupoint above. Using the tip of the thumb is both easy to act on the acupoint, and at the same time minimizes the risk of pain and bruising in the stimulated area.
You can use one hand, or preferably two hands supporting each other. This will help you reduce fatigue and hand fatigue.
There are many ways to stimulate, but there are 2 ways to apply: deep pressure and light pressure in a circle.
Specifically, you can press deeply continuously for about 10-15 seconds, then immediately switch to pressing in a circle for more than ten seconds, then press deeply again, then press again in a circle, etc., also on continuous periods as above.
Another way to stimulate the acupoint is that you can gently press the Shanzhong acupoint in a circle whenever you want. Such a continuous stimulating time of about 5 to 10 minutes is appropriate.
Rugen acupoint _ ST18

Acupressure to help lactation and breastfeeding
Finally, after having practiced the 2 acupoints, Shaoze and Shanzhong, you can take action on the Rugen acupoint. You can view detailed information about the Rugen acupoint in the ST18 video as well as on the website vikudo.com
Determine the location of the Rugen acupoint
(Please review the ST18 video)
The Rugen acupoint is located on the edge of the 6th rib (i.e. in the space between the 6th and 7th ribs), 4 CUN from the midline of the chest.
Effect of the Rugen acupoint
Also since ancient times, the Rugen acupoint has been known as a special acupoint for the treatment of respiratory diseases such as chest pain, tracheitis, etc., and especially specialized in the treatment of diseases related to nursing mothers such as: mastitis and lack of lactation.
Stimulate the Rugen acupoint
The way to act on the Rugen acupuncture point is also very simple. Concretely, you can immediately use the tip of your thumb and directly press the acupuncture point and must use the deep pressure technique on the acupuncture point.
The pressure is only relatively strong to cause slight pain and pressure under the chest. Continuously press deeply on the acupuncture point for a period of 10-15 seconds, then quickly switch to light circular pressure on the acupuncture point, also for more than ten seconds before moving into action. Rugen acupuncture point on the other side with the techniques and the same effect time.
Simply press and press in a circle in turn on the 2 acupuncture points on each side of the chest as well continuously for a period of 5 to 10 minutes depending on the intensity of the pressure. The principle is that the stronger the pressure on the acupuncture point, the shorter the time, and if the pressure is gentler, the stimulation time can be lengthened.
To end the practice session

Acupressure to help lactation and breastfeeding
After all, you can massage and gently massage all 2 breasts, starting with the central area, which is the Shanzhong acupoint. You can use the heel of your hand, pressing it gently to your chest in circles, clockwise or counterclockwise, as desired. Press in a circle gently, starting from the middle of the chest, then on each side and around the breast.
It is very important here that you always breathe gently through your lower abdomen. Keep your mind as calm and positive as possible.
I wish you good health, enough milk for your baby.
